Introduction to Programming in Python (Part A)

A basic introduction to programming in the Python language.

This is an introduction to programming course using the Python programming language, a forgiving and productive language that nevertheless has a great deal of breadth and power. The course is appropriate for new coders and covers installation of Python, data types, list types, utilizing Python modules, and control structures.

Course Outline

  • Installing and getting started with Python
  • Data types: Numbers, strings
  • List types (lists, dictionaries, tuples)
  • Importing modules
  • Loops

This course should be followed by Introduction to Programming in Python (Part B).

Prerequisites

  • Basic PC skills and access to a computer (Macintosh, Windows or Linux).
  • This course is appropriate for students with or without prior programming experience.

Duration and Format

4 weeks. Taught online. Instructor-led.
